When your grain dryer fails at 2am in the middle of harvest, when a short in the barn knocks out your feed system, when your irrigation pivot stops mid-field. you need an electrician who understands how a farm actually runs.
We’ve been wiring ag operations across central Alberta and Saskatchewan for over 20 years. From family farms running a few hundred acres to large-scale grain operations with multiple dryers and dozens of bins, we’ve seen just about every electrical setup a Canadian farm can throw at us.
What makes farm electrical different
Farm electrical isn’t just “residential wiring done big.” It’s a completely different discipline:
- Equipment runs hot and hard. A grain dryer at peak harvest draws serious amperage and keeps drawing it for days. Wiring and breakers need to be sized for real farm duty cycles, not the nameplate minimum.
- Weather is brutal. -30ยฐC mornings and +30ยฐC summers. Everything outside has to survive UV, ice, rodents, and fluctuating ground moisture.
- Controls need to be simple and bulletproof. A system that requires a PLC programmer to fix every time a relay trips doesn’t work out here. We build controls that a farm hand can diagnose and reset.
- Distances are long. Yard to a grain leg 300 feet away is a real voltage drop calculation, not a guess.
